The Tuesday Singers Escrick, York
Don grew up in a musical family in a small mining village in County Durham. He obtained his first music diploma at the Huddersfield Music College after doing a 2 year course and then moved to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London on a GGSM course. While he was in London he also did two years of a B. Mus. course at Kings College. He finished his training by doing a one year Teacher Training course at Bretton Hall near Wakefield. After teaching for one year in a large School in Gateshead he married and moved to Yorkshire. After a very enjoyable and rewarding three years as head of music at a large comprehensive school in South Elmsall he moved to York in 1974. Don is a well-known and very experienced musician in the York area. He has worked with the York Amateurs for eight years and then became musical director for New Earswick Musical Society. In 1993 he started (with his friend Arnold Durham) the very popular ‘Music Night’ concerts at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre at which the choir have been regular guests. For the past few  years Don has been the Musical Director for a young group of people called The Flying Ducks. He has played and conducted in hundreds of concerts across the region and has composed many songs and short pieces for voices and various groups of instruments. He has also arranged a huge range of songs and medleys for The Tuesday Singers.  Don likes working with people of all ages and of different musical abilities. He sets the choir a high standard of performance while creating a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere in all his rehearsals and concerts.
