The Tuesday Singers Escrick, York
ABOUT THE CHOIR The choir was formed by Barbara Miller and George Horne in September 1984 and grew rapidly from an initial 10 members to it’s current size of 30 to 40, drawn from across the York and Selby areas. The first public performances were at the Escrick Music Hall and St Helens Church in 1985. Our repertoire has grown over the years to include a wide variety of popular and light classical music (we have over 300 items in our library) as well as solo pieces and readings. Most of the music the choir perform is arranged for first and second Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass parts, and there are also solo and smaller group pieces performed by choir members In addition to our Summer and Christmas season, we sing at weddings and charity functions and the proceeds from our Christmas Concert are donated to the Church. Our Musical directors have been Alma Belbin (1984 - 1994), John Parkes (1995 - 1998), Margaret Garvey (1998 - 2000) and Don Pears since then. The Choir is managed by a Committee of 9 people who meet two or three times a year in addition to our Annual General Meeting held in September. Our fees are £15 per term which are paid at the beginning of each term. We practise each Tuesday during term times at Escrick Primary School from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. We are always keen to welcome new members to what is a friendly, social group.
